What will your garage be used for?

What kind of budget do you have?

Rules regarding the proximity of structures to property line differs by municipality. The City of Edmonton, for example, has very strict regulations for detached garage location. Alberta Garage Builders is familiar with the many nuances of municipal building laws, and we will ensure your detached garage meets the appropriate specifications. For a general guideline when it comes to detached garages in Edmonton, the following applies:

  • A detached garage must be built no less than 0.6 metres (2 feet) from interior side property lines (not a corner site). A minor structure may be located closer to interior side property lines if the height is not greater than 0.4 metres (1.3 feet) above the permitted fence height and,
  •  No less than 0.6 metres (2 feet) from the rear property line if the structure exceeds 2.7 metres (8.9 feet) in height. A minor structure may be located at the rear property line if the height is less than 2.7 metres (8.9 feet).
